Chocolate & Orange Mousse

Indulge your senses with our Chocolate & Orange Mousse. This Mousse can be served with our without gin, its your choice!

We recommend this serve using our Shortcross Classic Gin which can be purchased here.


If the mousse has set too firm in the fridge, simply remove from the fridge 30 minutes prior to serving to bring to room temperature.

  • 280g - Dark Chocolate, finely chopped
  • 355ml - Double Cream
  • 100g - Caster Sugar
  • 375ml - Milk
  • 6 - Egg Yolks
  • 1 - Orange Zest
  • 15ml - Shortcross Original gin
  • 100g - Mascarpone


  • Add milk, cream & orange zest to a saucepan and set over a medium heat to simmer
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the sugar & egg yolks until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is light yellow and thick
  • Add 3tbsp of the simmering cream into the egg yolk mixture and stir until combined
  • Add it all back into the pot and then cook, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the custard is lightly thickened
  • Pour the custard over the finely chopped chocolate and whisk until smooth. Divide the mixture between 4 glasses, smoothing the tops with an spatula.
  • Refrigerate until chilled and set, 2 hours.
  • When you are ready to serve, make the whipped mascarpone by combining mascarpone & Shortcross Gin. Whisk until the mixture holds a stiff peak.
  • Spoon the whipped mascarpone over the set mouse and garnish with an orange slice & sprinkle with grated orange zest.
